Rental equipment

Attempt to rent from OA first. They have more stuff and better gear:

Now, any of the following gear can be rented by contacting the officers directly; in your email, provide an itemized list of the items you would like to rent along with the dates you will rent them.

Pickup and dropoff instructions will be provided to you in the response email. In general, you will pick it up from a porch in Princeton, and then return it by dropping it off there as well.

Tent (3person tent) – $5/night

small tent (2 available)

Tent (6person tent) – $5/night

large tent (2 available)

Sleeping bag (5C) – $5/night

a huge warm sleeping bag [synthetic] (not for backpacking as it will take up your entire backpack)

sleeping bag (10C) – $5/night

a large cool sleeping bag [synthetic] (I’ve taken this backpacking, but it is still not as packable at a down sleeping bag)

sleeping pad ($1/night)

cheap foam pad for keeping the cold hard ground away

Coleman stove ($10/night)

a large two burner stove. 1 canister of propane gas will be provided. (which should get you through at least 1 rigorous night of extensive cooking…. or 1 full week of boiling 1 liter of water each morning)

note: this is not a grill nor should it be used as one.

Charcoal patio grill ($10/night)

This is a large round charcoal grill (16 inch diameter). Comes with charcoal chimney. Does not come with charcoal or lighter fluid.

microspikes ($2/day)

don’t slip on ice! (4 pairs available in Large and Small sizes) will fit to various boots and shoes

gaiters ($1/day)

No one, has ever rented these… They protect your boots from rain, snow, thorns, ticks, and the breeze.

snow shoes ($10/day)

21-inch snowshoes. (1 pair available) These are required to hike in the Adirondacks in snowy conditions. (like, you will get a ticket from a ranger if you don’t have them)

Crampons ($10/day)
For hiking up a sheet of ice. (1 pair available)

Climbing Gear

For liability reasons, we do not rent climbing gear.

Other gear

The officers have gear for most activities and they may be willing to rent it to you. (We don’t rent kayaks, skis, snowboards, or ice skates).

Also note, officers can use any of this gear for free.
